5 Major Wins for Neurodiverse Students in 2024

2024 was a big year for ND Alliance club members across the nation, filled with advocacy, transformative partnerships, and stories of empowerment. From powerful conversations with thought leaders like Temple Grandin to student-led lobbying efforts on Capitol Hill, we’ve seen neurodivergent voices take center stage, driving change and raising awareness.

Join us as we celebrate our community’s five major wins, including championing policies that ensure neurodiverse young people receive the support they need to succeed in their education, the launch of new ND Alliance clubs, and the second year of our scholarship program.

  1. Education Policies Got a Boost
In March, The Neurodiversity Alliance, invited by State Assembly member Jo Anne Simon, was in Albany at the New York State Capital for Dyslexia Awareness Day. Dyslexia Awareness Day is an event dedicated to supporting the voices of young people and this year advocated for the New York State Legislature to pass several landmark Dyslexia Bills.

  2. Advocacy Efforts Reached New Heights
In June, more than thirty advocates from The ND Alliance and the National Center for Learning Disabilities partnered to lobby for LD Day of Action in Washington, D.C. Students came from all corners of the country to speak with their elected representatives about education policy and lobby for the day. LD Day of Action is an annual event where neurodiverse students and their allies meet with their elected representatives to discuss education policy, engage in political advocacy, and demonstrate leadership alongside their peers.

  3. Eye to Eye became part of The Neurodiversity Alliance
In 2024, Eye to Eye became part of The Neurodiversity Alliance, or “The ND Alliance” for short. The ND Alliance is the largest network of neurodiversity-focused clubs on high school and college campuses across the country. It was founded by and for students who learn differently.Through the online community and mobile app, students can access the tools to launch neurodiversity clubs on their campuses. They can also access a variety of scholarships, leadership opportunities, and national events designed to build community, develop leadership skills, facilitate peer-to-peer support, and raise awareness for the 1 in 5 who learn differently.

  4. Relaunch of The Neurodiversity Scholarship
Now in its second year, The Neurodiversity Scholarship is the largest national scholarship program investing directly in neurodivergent students, including those with learning differences such as Dyslexia, ADHD, Processing Disorders, Autism, and other common challenges related to learning. At The Neurodiversity Alliance, we believe students are much more than their transcript, test scores, and resume. That’s why we focus on the power of storytelling to better understand a student’s academic journey, showcase unique strengths and qualities, and help identify talent and potential within the neurodiverse community.

  5. Temple Grandin, renowned author and autism advocate, shares her journey with neurodivergent students
Listen to the fireside chat, where Temple Grandin shared how she navigated life with autism and how she turned her unique perspective into groundbreaking achievements with our National Student Advisory Council members Alli Mulqueen and Julien Bouchacourt.
