The Neurodiversity Alliance Launches “Neurodiversity Is …” Campaign for Learning Disabilities Awareness Month

This October, in honor of Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, The Neurodiversity Alliance invites all students, educators, parents, allies, and institutions to join the movement through its first “Neurodiversity Is …” campaign—a nationwide effort to showcase the voices, stories, and perspectives of neurodivergent students and allies. The campaign aims to raise awareness and deepen understanding while amplifying the Alliance’s mission of creating spaces where every neurodivergent person feels seen, supported, and celebrated.

An estimated 1 in 5 people have a learning difference such as dyslexia or ADHD, including more than 2.4 million school-age students in the U.S. alone. By elevating their stories and leadership, the campaign seeks to shift the narrative: from focusing on challenges to celebrating the strengths and contributions of the neurodivergent community.

The campaign is built around a social media toolkit (including graphics, captions, profile frames, cover photos, story templates, and printable posters) that community members can easily adopt and adapt. Under the banner “Neurodiversity Is …”, students, alumni, educators, parents, and allies are invited to complete the phrase in their own words and share what neurodiversity means to them.

Participants are encouraged to:

  • Download and share assets from the toolkit
  • Post their own “Neurodiversity Is ___” statements along with a photo or video
  • Use hashtags #NeurodiversityIs, #TheNDAlliance, and #1in5
  • Update social media profiles, email banners, and more to reflect campaign themes
  • Add alternative text to graphics to ensure accessibility for all participants

Why This Matters

“Neurodiversity is too often misunderstood or overlooked,” said David Flink, Founder and CEO of The Neurodiversity Alliance. “With this campaign, we’re putting real voices—students, alumni, and allies—front and center to shift the narrative. Instead of focusing only on challenges, we’re celebrating the strengths, experiences, and contributions of neurodivergent people. When our community shares what neurodiversity means to them, it breaks down misconceptions, builds empathy, and helps create more inclusive schools, workplaces, and communities.”
