Autism Spectrum Disorder, LD Nonspecified

One of the things I love about being autistic is my genuine love for certain topics, and by unmasking I am now able to let my passion shine through. Being unapologetically myself is freeing. I was giving a presentation about my academic journey once for scientific public outreach, and a lady came to me afterwards and told me her daughter is also autistic, and my story inspired her and gave her hope that the child will also grow up doing something she loves and be happy.

Pursuing a Dual-title PhD in Chemistry and Astrobiology, Amber researches the origins of life, which is driven by a lifelong passion for science. Born in China, where autism is often misunderstood, she masked her neurodivergence until moving to Canada. In high school a teacher helped her recognize her synesthesia and its link to autism, leading to a formal diagnosis. Excelling in an intense Honours Bachelor’s program in Medical Biophysics and Biochemistry, she shifted her focus to astrobiology and space medicine after an epilepsy diagnosis. With accommodations, she thrived academically, earning prestigious research awards, conducting studies, and presenting at international conferences, determined to push the boundaries of scientific discovery.
