DYSLEXIA ADVOCACY DAY: Literacy for All

May 14 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm

What: Dyslexia Advocacy Day builds support for the dyslexic community and those with related learning disabilities. We share strategies and experiences, and feature legislative solutions.

Who: Allies include parents, students, advocates, educators, and legislators throughout New York State.

Why: With only 35% of our fourth graders reading proficiently, we are leaving far too many students behind. Dyslexia is common – in every class of 30 students, 5 or 6 of them have dyslexia, but most of them will not be identified for years, and many never are. Let’s work together to change that.

Students can receive letters from Assemblymember Simon for their school, noting that this is an excused absence.

Be part of the conversation!

Program Agenda:

  • 10:30am: Gather in The Capitol
  • 11:00am: Rally and Press Conference with Assemblymember Simon, legislative cosponsors, advocates, and families
  • 12:00pm: Reception
  • 1:00pm: Visit the Assembly Chambers
  • Meet with your State Legislators: Share your story and advocate for legislative solutions! You are the expert and it’s important that your representative hears from you. Contact us if you need help setting up a meeting: simonj@nyassembly or 718-246-4889. Or find your Assemblymember or Senator here to schedule a meeting.
